Frequently Asked Questions
-
Which surf break will we go to?This will depend a bit on the time, tide, swell and your ability level. Our beginner lessons and kids lessons are mostly held at Batu Bolong beach in Canggu. This location generally has safe easy rolling waves and minimal hazards. If you have purchased transport, we are able to be a bit more flexible and your instructor can check the forecast and take you to the best place available for your ability.
-
What if I don’t have any transport? No problem, we can arrange for our comfortable, air conditioned Surf Lessons Bali van to come and pick you up directly from your hotel or villa. Note there is a small extra charge for this service.
-
I want to beat the crowds, can i get an early start?Easy! We can start predawn – beat the traffic and have you in an uncrowded line up at sunrise. Obviously it makes more sense if you want a really early session to use our transport options and have us pick you up from your accommodation - that way we can go directly to your surfing location without any delay.
-
I have a few friends that want to come with me. Can I bring them along?Absolutely! We can organise multiple Surf Instructors and transport options for you. Our comfortable, air conditioned Surf Lessons Bali van has ample room for up to 7 pax.
-
How can we get to reef breaks? We have partnership with reputable boat transfer operators and can have a boat ready to take you straight out to the line up and pick us up from the reef break at a prearranged time. Note there is a small charge paid directly to the boat operator for this service.
-
What should I bring?Bring a towel, your swimming cossie and sun protection if you have it (hat, sunscreen etc). We can provide long sleeve rash vests to keep you from getting too burned and getting board rash too! Bring along a camera or your smart phone also so we can get a few memorable photos on the beach after our session.
-
Can you provide boards? Not an issue. We have our own high quality beginner boards for our lessons but if you're after a hard board or something specific, we can source you any type of board you need to suit your ability. Beginner board hire is included in your lesson fee, but should you want a different board there will be a small charge paid directly to our board hire partner.
-
What if I can't swim? Our number one priority is keeping you safe. We want you to feel safe and confident in the water so you can have the time of your life with us. If you can't swim, we can ensure we stay in waist deep water so you can always stand up. Our beginners lessons are mostly held at Batu Bolong where the waves are generally perfect for learning to surf and are not super scary or intense.

When is the best time of day to surf in Bali? The best time depends primarily on the tide and the wind. In general, wind is low and tends to be offshore in the morning so if the tide is right for a particular break at that time, your best bet is a morning session. Note that some breaks work all day regardless of the tide, and many are sheltered from the wind or the wind simply doesn't affect the waves on offer that much.
